POSC/Caesar, ISO 15926, and Fiatech
Hexagon PPM has been an active member of POSC/Caesar and delivered the first ever POSC/Caesar data warehouse in 1997. POSC/Caesar initiated the development of the ISO 15926 standard “Integration of life-cycle data for process plants oil and gas production facilities,” and PPM and its SmartPlant® Enterprise integrated solutions support ISO 15926. The underlying SmartPlant Foundation data model has shared a common basis with ISO 15926 Part 2 since their joint origins and has evolved reflecting the ongoing development of this standard. Hexagon PPM has been involved in several joint industry initiatives on ISO 15926 implementation under the auspices of Fiatech, a global community of capital facilities stakeholders working together to drive productivity and efficiency improvements by advancing technology and innovative practices. These initiatives have included cross-vendor Proteus and iRing initiatives for which an PPM employee received a Superior Technical Achievement Award (STAR) by Fiatech.
In addition to our support for ISO 15926 in our IM tools, SmartPlant Interop Publisher reads ISO15926 files for conversion to our 3D format for use in our 3D tools, and SmartPlant P&ID saves P&ID data into ISO15926 compliant .xml file.
CFIHOS (Capital Facilities Information Hand-Over Specification) for process industries
CFIHOS is an emerging standard from USPI-NL that specifies the information required by the owner operator to operate, maintain, and modify industrial process facilities including oil & gas, process & chemical, power, pulp, paper, food & beverages. The specification applies across the value chain and includes information required to meet regulatory authority requirements. As such, we believe that CFIHOS provides a good platform for standardization of information requirements across the industry to reduce the uncertainty and costs of handovers, simplify the license to operate process and provide a basis for supporting interoperability and increased efficiency of work processes during the operations and maintenance phase of the facility life-cycle. The CFIHOS project has built on the Engineering Information Specification (EIS) developed by Shell, who has used this specification for about eight years to specify the information it requires be handed over from contractors to populate its asset lifecycle management systems. The Shell implementation of SmartPlant Foundation for a number of Shell facilities already includes this corporate Shell EIS specification.
CIFHOS represents a practical implementation of ISO 15926 and will be incorporated as part of the ISO 15926-10X standard. Hexagon PPM is a CFIHOS member and active participant. PPM is leading an initiative along with other software vendors to define software compliance standards for the specification.
Whilst the CFIHOS standard is still under development, Hexagon PPM considers that it provides a good pragmatic basis for defining standard information requirements for life-cycle asset management. We are adopting this standard within our new Smart Digital Asset portfolio of products.
The Open Data Protocol (OData) is a data access protocol built on core protocols like HTTP and commonly accepted methodologies like REST for the web. More information about this open standard is available here.
The business value of OData is enormous in that it provides a fast, simple way to access the information our systems and support interoperability between IT systems within an ecosystem such as between Hexagon PPM's information management solutions and a computerized maintenance management system. Our OData APIs allow third party systems to integrate and access information in our systems to display or incorporate that information within their systems or composite applications. Third party systems with appropriate access privileges can also update information in our systems.
SmartPlant Foundation and the solutions built on this, such as SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators, already benefit a wide range of read-write OData APIs and OAuth 2.0 standard for authentication. Over the coming years, our Smart design tools will similarly support OData APIs.
