Intergraph® Releases SmartPlant® P&ID 2014 Featuring New Ducting and Instrumentation Diagram Capabilities
D&ID functionality plus enhancements efficiently support work processes for project execution and plant operations19 February 2014
Intergraph® has released SmartPlant® P&ID 2014, the latest version of its market-leading engineering solution for creating, maintaining and improving plant configurations. SmartPlant P&ID 2014 features new ducting and instrumentation diagram functionality and the solution scope has been extended with enhancements to more efficiently support work processes for project execution and plant operations, and lower the cost of ownership.
The new ducting and instrumentation diagram (D&ID) capability in SmartPlant P&ID 2014 lets users “Experience the Power of Smart Engineering” by creating a schematic representation for air handling or process systems. SmartPlant P&ID configures the ducting system with the connectivity, components and instruments that can next be used in downstream tasks like SmartPlant Electrical and SmartPlant Instrumentation and ultimately, the physical design in Intergraph Smart™ 3D, the world’s most advanced and productive 3D design solution.
Using SmartPlant P&ID 2014 with the D&ID extension offers clear benefits to clients designing air handling and or process ducting systems. The connectivity providesthe benefits of validating the design early on as the SmartPlant P&ID Engineering Integrity rules can be created to verify ducting-related engineering and safety practices.
Additional enhancements allow SmartPlant P&ID 2014 users to:
- Interface to SmartPlant Instrumentation for system controls.
- Link to SmartPlant Electrical to power fans.
- Report on components and load balancing for the systems.
- Interface to external calculation and/or analysis systems through the API for more comprehensive system checks.
- Create reports and D&ID drawings with more consistency and higher quality.
- Perform change management with version comparisons.
- Take advantage of display sets.
- Enforce engineering, safety and operational practices with rules.
“Our HVAC department was really looking forward for the release of SmartPlant P&ID 2014, as the new D&ID functionalities and duct objects will provide a single solution for many of their needs, and will allow a complete integration with the other disciplines in the future. “The ability to report to a single unit of measurement (UoM) will eliminate the need for post-processing macros that typically ensure consistent UoMs in reports. This will speed up the generation of reports and reduce the time required to format, while maintaining data accuracy,” Lapierre noted.
“We started our tests with the beta version of SmartPlant P&ID 2014 to check how the new D&ID capability could fit our needs,” added Ricardo Rodrigues da Silva, Systems Engineering, Progen Projetos Gerenciamento e Engenharia Ltda. “What we saw was a very stable product ... we ran all tests without a single problem.”
