Russian State Nuclear Corporation NIAEP-ASE Uses Intergraph® SmartPlant® Fusion to Capture and Manage 3D Model Data

The company executed a successful pilot project on asset laser scanning and data capturing technology

The Russian nuclear state company NIAEP-ASE and Intergraph® have successfully executed a facility laser scanning and 3D model data capture with SmartPlant® Fusion during construction of the Rostov NPP plant.

NIAEP-ASE’s project needed accurate digital as-built information about the facility which was missing from the original construction and design documentation. SmartPlant Fusion enabled NIAEP-ASE to quickly create an as-built model of the facility, by integrating photorealistic Leica laser scan data, Intergraph Smart™ 3D models and scanned paper documentation. The SmartPlant Fusion portal now provides a comprehensive view of all technical asset information for the nuclearpower plant operations and maintenance personnel to use as a master system for subsequent mechanical and operations work.

Due to the success of this project, this technology is now considered for all future projects by NIAEP-ASE. Thecompany will now be able to build plants in a more efficient and safer manner by having all plant 3D models and engineering data integrated in a single platform, and accessed through a simple photorealistic portal.

Rostov NPP plant is one of the largest nuclear plants in the south of Russia, supplying 15 percent of the region’s electricity. The plant is located on the Tsimlyansk reservoir in the lower stream of the Don River near Volgodonsk, Rostov Oblast and is also known as Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant. The plant generates 25 million kilowatt per hour daily and about 8 billion kWh in a year. The facility operates two water-cooled water-moderated energetic reactors with a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts, with two additional units under construction.

With regards to the continued collaboration with NIAEP –ASE, Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine president, stated: “NIAEP-ASE has recognized the power of engineering information management to ensure efficient handover, reduce costs, and improve plant safety. We are proud of the results to date, and look forward to continued success.”

SmartPlant Fusion is the latest solution developed by Intergraph to rapidly capture, organize, and make available large volumes of previously unstructured information through a simple web portal interface. The types of unstructured information include documents, drawings, lists and sheets, 3D models, and High Definition Survey (HDS) photorealistic laser scans.

The ARC Advisory Group, a leading industry analyst firm, ranked Intergraph as the No. 1 overall worldwide provider of engineering design solutions for industry according to its “Engineering Design Tools for Industry and Infrastructure Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast Through 2016.

The merged company NIAEP–ASE was established in March 2012 by resolution of the state atomic energy corporation Rosatom. NIAEP-ASE designs, constructs and puts into operation power facilities in Russia and implements foreign projects. Today, over 4,000 people work for the company; this figure amounts to over 7,000 if the personnel of subsidiaries is included. NIAEP-ASE, the company resulting from the merge of JSC NIAEP andJSC Atomstroyexport (ASE) had undertaken a large amount of projects, including: Rostov NPP blocks 3&4; Baltic NPP 1&2; Kursk NPP-2; Nizhny Novgorod NPP 1&2; Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2 Units 1&2; Tianwan NPP 3&4 (China); Akkuyu NPP 1,2,3,4 (Turkey); Belarus NPP 1&2; Kudankulam NPP 1&2 (India); Ninh Thuan 1&2 (Vietnam). Bushehr NPP -1 (Iran) is already operative. More than 20 NPP projects are currently ongoing. The President of JSC NIAEP-holding Company of JSC Atomstroyexport (JSC ASE) is Valery Limarenko, Doctor of Economics.
