Leading Japanese shipyard standardizes on industry-leading solution and moves into full production, including fabrication04 giugno 2013
Shin Kurushima Dockyard Company Limited (SKDY), one of the world’s most productive shipyards, has achieved another landmark milestone with Intergraph® SmartMarine® 3D, moving into the production phase for its ship projects, including fabrication planning.
SKDY had chosen to standardize on SmartMarine 3D and successfully demonstrated its use of the industry-leading solution with a steel-cutting ceremony. With Intergraph’s continuous enhancement of SmartMarine 3D, thesolution has out-of-the-box content and functionality to support ship production. Today, SKDY has successfully incorporated its specific requirements into SmartMarine 3D, which are fully automated across its production processes. With support from Intergraph, SKDY is the first shipyard in Japan to implement SmartMarine 3D for the production stage, using its own built-in, automated rules. The company will use SmartMarine3D for all ship production, starting with its flagship shipyard, Onishi, and then expanding to all its other shipyards: HashiHama, Kochi, Toyohashi and HigashiHiroshima.
“SmartMarine 3D’s rule-based, automated technology fits with our sophisticated design,” said Isshin Fuji, managing officer general manager of the ship design department at SKDY. “As we continue to customize SmartMarine 3D and build our technical strength, the Intergraph solution’s advanced capabilities and workshare feature enable us to share our technical expertise and know-how with the newer generation of engineers. This ensures that we maintain our leading position in a highly competitive global shipbuilding market.”
Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine president, said, “SKDY is one of the world’s most productive shipyards and is a pioneer in the Japanese shipbuilding industry. SKDY is yet again a leader with its latest technological advances through the use of Intergraph SmartMarine 3D.
