Intergraph and as2con unveil expanded integration between Intergraph's SmartMarine 3D and as2con’s CAFE solutions to further increase their common users' ship design quality and productivity. The latest developments of CAFE software forship design enable automatic finite element method (FEM) meshing of structural models SmartMarine® 3D. The developments were presented at the SmartMarine Enterprise Seminar in Opatija, Croatia, recently organised by Intergraph’s Process, Power & Marine division, the leading global provider of enterprise engineering software for the design, construction, operation and data management of plants, ships and offshore facilities.
“CAFE aims to support designers in the development of their ship concepts. Integration with SmartMarine 3D therefore comes naturally. Automatic FEM meshing, as a part of concept validation, can now be done for models developed in SmartMarine 3D. Through this extension of capabilities, and through the collaboration with Intergraph, we believe we can serve the market better”, says Alan Klanac, DSc. managing director of as2con. On the Intergraph side, vice president of Marine Industry, Marcel Veldhuizen highlights that “SmartMarine 3D is the world's most advanced offshore and shipbuilding solution, featuring breakthrough engineering technology that is data-centric, knowledge- and rule-driven to improve delivery schedules, with increased detail and manufacturing design productivity of up to 30 percent. Increased integration with other industry-leading solutions such as CAFE further increases our customers' safety, quality and productivity in a highly competitive market.”
CAFE is intended for fast and easy creation of a 3D ship model in the early stages of design development. Special feature of CAFE is the automatic FEM meshing and preparation of finite element calculations, while SmartMarine 3D strengths lie in its data-centric, rule-driven solutions for streamlining marine asset design processes while preserving existing data and making it more usable and re-usable. Conference participants encouraged the interface between CAFE and SmartMarine 3D environment by using the neutral XML scheme. In addition to presenting the latest solutions, attendees also learned about other added capabilities to SmartMarine 3D, and heard case studies on successful deployments of the solution.
