About 20 years ago, Andrew Gregg – a consultant with Gregg Valdés & Associates – became familiar with European standards for process industries for the handover of project documentation to operations.
Due to various frustrations, industries themselves have devised the new Capital Facility Information Handover Specification (CFIHOS) standards.
“I think they’re a tremendous starting point for anyone in industry looking at what information do I need to hand over from project to operations,” Gregg said. “And it touches not just the document part of the handover, but very much goes into the sets of data, engineering data that are necessary for handover as well.”
In June of this year, Hexagon PPM announced that it is first software provider to officially conform to the new process industry standard, version 1.3.
CFIHOS was created by the process industry community to offer a more useful and pragmatic standard for data handover, resulting in reduced overall project costs and improved operational performance in the future. This could potentially represent 2 to 4 percent of the capital cost of owner operators’ projects, which are typically on the scale of many millions or billions of dollars.
Hexagon made the strategic decision to align its new cloud-based HxGN SDx™ platform of Asset Lifecycle Information Management (ALIM) solutions with CFIHOS based on customers’ enthusiasm for the standard. In this video, Gregg shares additional information about the importance of the standard.
