Throwback Thursday Ramboll at Platinum Pipe Awards 2015

HxGN LIVE Platinum Pipe Awards Caspar Arevad

Today we are taking a trip back down the memory lane and revisiting the Platinum Pipe Awards 2015. Platinum Pipe Awards recognize the most innovative automation ideas for Intergraph® SmartPlant® Review, Intergraph Smart™ 3D, SmartPlant P&ID, SmartPlant Electrical, and SmartPlant Instrumentation.

GetSmart Blog had a talk with Caspar Arevad from Ramboll to discuss Caspar’s award-winning automation idea for Intergraph Smart 3D from 2015.

GetSmart Blog: How did you get your original idea?

Caspar Arevad: The idea was in the works for years – originally I thought of it back in 2002. At that time, I was working at the drawing office at Odense Steel shipyard, and creating block drawings for the production while writing the specifications for our drawing rule sets. I was basically thinking how to make the manual processes more automated to save time.

GSB: Could you tell us a little bit more of your Platinum Pipe Awards submission?

CA: This automation proposal was a new variant of the collation rule in the existing design basis report (DBR). This way of automation enables grouping of objects with more criteria, per folder in the system hierarchy. The major difference is that with this approach multiple views can be created automatically.

Grouping per folder makes it possible, for example, to group plate systems defined by points, and it also gives further possibilities to include other objects that are not connected, but fulfill the criteria by being in the same folder.

This solution is ideal to use when you are modeling on a point cloud where nothing it straight, or doing stealth design for a navy ship.

GSB: How would this automation increase productivity or accelerate project schedules?

CA: The influence of this automation idea shows especially when modeling plate systems. You will be able to automatically create views instead of defining them manually, saving hours of working time by grouping objects differently.

GSB: Would you have anything else you would like to add regarding Platinum Pipe Awards, HxGN LIVE Conference, etc.?

CA: “Getting a “hands on” approach to the latest improvements in the Intergraph software makes my company able to be one step ahead when implementing the solutions. It is also a great chance to meet and talk to other Users and fellow Administrators. The network created during HxGN LIVE has proven to be of a great value after the conference.

HxGN LIVE 2016 is taking place in Anaheim, California 13-16 of June 2016. The deadline for submissions for the Platinum Pipe Awards 2016 is 8th of March.
