Wood Group Mustang, featured in the 35th issue of Insight Magazine, poivded Hess Corporation with scaning data and point cloud solutions for its natural gas production expansion.
When the Hess Tioga natural gas processing plant (TGP) in northwestern North Dakota, U.S., embarked on an expansion to meet increased demand for natural gas production, the project manager looked to Wood Group Mustang to provide as-built conditions in certain areas of the existing plant.
Mustang used both time-of-flight and phased-based technology to complete the scans on the 80+ acre project site. The scan data was used to create topography maps as well as to locate power line clearances and other obstruction locations across the property.
Using the Cyclone Object Exchange (COE), the point cloud model was exported to CADWorx Plant Professional, Intergraph’s plant design and modeling solution, to create 3D intelligent models. Within CADWorx, designers were able to lay out existing vessels, tanks and various other plant equipment using real-world coordinates.
“Through scanning data, we were able to provide an enormous amount of data that would not have been available through a conventional survey effort,” Stevens said. “That same data provided benefit through construction with the creation of isometrics and the resolution of field issues and will provide a solid foundation for life-cycle maintenance of the facility.”
